המשרד לענייני חוץ של ארמניה גינה את אזרבייג'ן על תקיית 'משפטים מזויפים' נגד מנהיגים צבאיים ופוליטיים לשעבר של נגורנו-קרבח. ממשלת ארמניה טוענת כי המשפטים הללו משמשים ככלי ללחץ פוליטי ולשליטה חברתית. מפגינים בארמניה יצאו לרחובות ודורשים את שחרורו של רובן ורדניאן וארמנים נוספים שנעצרו באזרבייג'ן. הנושא נשאר רגיש ביותר, עם מתחים בין שתי המדינות שממשיכים להתסלק. ארמניה מתעקשת על כך שפעולותיו של אזרבייג'ן פוגעות בזכויות האדם ובתקנים משפטיים בינלאומיים.
